Ambassador Li Ruiyou visited West New Britain Province and East New Britain Province

From March 29th to April 1st, Ambassador Li Ruiyou visited West New Britain Province and East New Britain Province, made courtesy calls on the Governors of the two Provinces, donated disaster relief supplies on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in PNG to flood-affected West New Britain Province, and attended donation ceremonies held by the local Chinese Enterprises.

In the morning of March 30th, Ambassador Li made a courtesy call on West New Britain Province Governor Sasindran Muthuvel. Governor Muthuvel briefed Ambassador Li on the economic developments of the WNB Province. He said that the Province was recently hit by floods causing severe damages to roads and bridges, which have affected people’s normal life and the local economy. He expressed his wishes for Chinese side’s participation in the infrastructure development. Ambassador Li briefed Governor Muthuvel on the development of China-PNG relations, and agreed with the Governor that there is potential for exchanges and economic cooperation between China and West New Britain Province. After their meeting, Ambassador Li donated disaster relief supplies including tarpaulins and rice to people affected by the flood. Li also attended together with the Governor the donation ceremony held by the Chinese company COVEC which contributed K20,000 as disaster relief.

In the morning of March 31st, Ambassador Li made a courtesy call on East New Britain Province Governor Ereman ToBaining Junior. Governor ToBaining briefed Ambassador Li on the development of tourism in the Province and expressed his gratitude for the support from the Chinese side to the economic and social development of the Province. Ambassador Li briefed Governor ToBaining on the Chinese companies and Chinese community in the Province. Li also informed the Governor of the robberies and other law and order issues which have implicated Chinese nationals working and living in the Province. Li asked the provincial government to take measures and assure the safety of the Chinese nationals and their property. After their meeting, Ambassador Li Governor ToBaining attended the donation ceremony held by the Chinese company China Jiangsu International which donated some money and computers to two local schools.
