By now, China has dispatched 6 medical teams to work in the Port Moresby General Hospital. Their services to the PNG citizens have been well appreciated. Li pointed out that health service is an important part of national social welfare. So cooperation in this area has not only deepened understanding and friendship between Chinese and PNG peoples, but also helped promote China-PNG exchanges and cooperation in other areas.

Ambassador Li thanked the PNG Department of Health for its support to the Chinese medical teams, and expressed confidence that the 7th team, with the assistance of the PNG Department of Health, will continue to provide quality service to PNG people.

Secretary Kase thanked the Chinese government for its generous support and assistance to the development of PNG’s public health. He said that the service and trainings provided by the medical teams have greatly contributed to the development of PNG’s health sector and promoted bilateral cooperation on related areas. At present, PNG still faces severe shortage of health services, especially in the rural areas. PNG Department of Health hopes to further strengthen cooperation with China and welcomes more support to PNG’s health sector from China.
