Ambassador Li Ruiyou Made Courtesy Call on Prime Minister Peter O'Neill

On May 21st, Ambassador Li Ruiyou made a courtesy call on Hon. Prime Minister Peter O'Neill. In the greetings, Ambassador Li extended his congratulations to the Prime Minister and PNG people on the start of PNG LNG production and the loading of the first shipment of the LNG product.

During the meeting, Mr. Li conveyed the cordial greetings from H.E. Li Keqiang, Premier of China, to Mr. O'Neill and the people of PNG,and expressed his admiration for the great achievements PNG government and people have made in developing national economy and making social progress, and the important role PNG has played in regional and global affairs. Mr. Li said he was pleased to see the development of the friendly relationship and cooperation between the two countries. Mr. Li told Prime Minister that China has placed great importance to the Sino-PNG relations and seen PNG as a good partner for cooperation.

Prime Minister O'Neill asked the ambassador to convey his reciprocal greetings to Premier Li Keqiang. He said that PNG has ties with China which go back to long time when Chinese started to come here at the early part of the last century, and the relations have been strengthened since the establishment of the diplomatic ties in 1976. Now the two countries enjoy close exchanges and cooperation in politics and business. The Prime Minister appreciates China's participation in PNG's economic and social development. In response, Ambassador Li said that PNG is regarded as a sincere and genuine friend of the Chinese people. China is willing to work closely with the PNG government and people to further advance the bilateral ties and explore the potentials for exchanges and cooperation for mutual benefits.
