Amb. Li Zhenjun Visited Goroka

       At the invitation of Hon. Malcolm Smith-Kela, Governor of Eastern Highlands Province, Amb. Li Zhenjun paid a visit to Goroka, the capital city of the province, from 3 to 5 December, 2004.

       Amb. Li was warmly welcomed by Hon. Smith and a singsing group. A small scale welcoming ceremony was held at the airport. Some villagers were dressed up in traditional costume and danced to express their warm welcome. Governor Smith briefed Amb. Li about the economic and social development of the province. After the briefing, Amb. Li visited National Sports Institute, Institute of Medical Research, University of Goroka, J.K. McCarthy Museum, a series of agricultural plantations and farms, and two coffee factories.

       Amb. Li exchanged views with Hon. Smith on the cooperation and sistership between Fujian Province of China and Eastern Highlands Province, and the Lufa dry rice project. They agreed that cooperation between the two provinces should be further strengthened.
